Law Insider, a trusted library of contract standards for lawyers, has introduced an AI platform for transactional law.
Similarly to Spellbook, it features draft, review, and playbooks out of the box, lives in Microsoft Word. But, how do they compare?
Primarily a legal research platform, Law Insider offers a vast database of contracts and clauses. It has recently incorporated AI tools to aid in contract drafting, review, and redlining, aiming to enhance efficiency for legal professionals
Spellbook, as the first generative AI for lawyers, a purpose-built AI for transactional lawyers hosts a wider array of features with more depth.
Spellbook employs a model-agnostic approach, leveraging the best large language models (LLMs) for specific legal tasks, enhancing accuracy and reliability, including OpenAI's GPT4.5 and o1, Claude Sonnet 3.7, and more.
As of this writing, Law Insider uses OpenAI’s GPT-4o to power its platform.
Both tools operate within Microsoft Word, which is essential for legal professionals.
Spellbook stands out with the depth of each feature, going beyond basic AI assistance by learning each lawyer’s preferences, drafting from templates, summarizing redlines, and handling complex, multi-document workflows with their Agentic AI.
Currently, Law Insider appears as a mainly self directed experience, with users starting a free trial and using the product on their own. Spellbook offers training and support through guided onboarding's, regular training calls, and dedicated customer success manager.
As a new entrant, Law Insider doesn't boast the same security prowess as Spellbook, such as SOC2 and Single Sign On (SSO), their Zero Data Retention policies are unknown at this moment.
“Spellbook saves a lot of time and makes us more productive as attorneys. It's like my personal paralegal.”
“If Spellbook saves me two hours per year, it pays for itself. But it saves me 25-30% of my time. ”
“I love Spellbook. I use it every day. It saves me at least one hour, sometimes two hours, a day.”
